When the Crunch goes Quiet

The shimmer of the sun dancing on the carpet of frost in the crisp morning air. A rainbow of leaves float from tree to the ground. The seasons have changed, which means we should prep our homes for winter- and we will cover that in a later post. For now, lets talk about Fall.

The Fall season comes with specific looks, smells and sounds, but when the crunchy leaves get wet they turn into silent, slippery mush- and things can get scary.
I know many of you look forward to the Fall. It means sweaters and your favorite coffee or tea drink from the local coffee shop (and I have no problem with that!). However, all it takes is a drizzle of rain to turn the beautiful leaves into an accident waiting to happen. I'm not trying to scare you! I am trying to help you avoid getting hurt, and hopefully save you from a lawsuit.

When the crisp leaves get wet they can create an oil slick of fallen foliage. Ok, that may be a bit extreme. But the fact remains: wet leaves are extremely slippery. That goes for when you are walking, riding or driving. So, here are a few tips:
Tip #1: Be sure to clear leaves from your walkways at home and your business. This could save you from the aggravation of a slip and fall claim. (If you need contact information for a landscaper, reach out to us and we can send you recommendations!)
Tip #2: When you are driving during this time of year be very careful in areas with wet (or dry) leaves covering the roadway. It can make it difficult to control your vehicle. It can make it especially difficult to come to a quick stop.
Tip #3: Clear leaves from your gutters. They can clog the gutters and downspouts which could cause a leak into your home. (If you need contact information for someone to clean your gutters, or install gutter guards, reach out and we can send you recommendations!)
So, after you've cleared the leaves from your property (walkways and gutters) you can finally sit down and peacefully enjoy your favorite fall beverage while you watch the leaves let go of their seasonal home in the canopy and flutter softly to the ground.
